Volunteer Spotlight… Kevin Tennill

Tell us a little bit about yourself (where you work, hobbies, background)

I am my own boss in a private therapy practice in O’Fallon/LSL and I specialize in Addiction and Substance Use Disorders along with Grief counseling.  My hobbies are hiking, kayaking, fishing and boating.  I love pizza and crab rangoon.  I went to Duchesne High School, Drury University in Springfield, MO for undergrad and then to MOBAP here in town for my Masters in Counseling.

Tell us a little bit about your family (spouse, children, grandchildren, pets, etc)

I’m married with 2 daughters.  We adopted a dog a few years ago.  My kids named it “Flappy’ due to her flappy ears 🙂

How do you volunteer with Community Strong?

As a community panel member from the Mental Health field with Workplace Wellness

Why is it important to you to volunteer with Community Strong?

I feel I am where I’m at in my life because of community support organizations and I want to give back

How do you hope to impact St. Charles County through your service with Community Strong?

I would love to have an impact on businesses and employees who are needing support with substance use problems and be a bridge for them to reach the community support they may need

What have you learned about yourself through volunteering with Community Strong?

I’ve learned that two heads are greater than one. The more like minded people you surround yourself with, the better your chances of success in reaching your goals.

If you could encourage someone else to volunteer with Community Strong, what would you say?

It feels good to give back. Even if you don’t think you have anything to contribute, your presence means a lot to the team and your strengths will eventually shine through. 🙂
