Coalition on Addictions

The Next Step: Providing Scholarship Opportunities for Individuals in Recovery

The St. Louis Coalition on Addictions is an NCADA program that brings together individuals concerned about addiction. It provides a forum for networking, for learning and advocacy about the use and abuse of alcohol and other drugs, and for discussion of other addictions. Participation is open to anyone interested in the prevention and treatment of addictions.

Lunch is provided free of charge (courtesy of Alkermes, Inc.)

A CEU for one contact hour is available for $5.00.  COA is a service of NCADA and the Community Academic Partnership on Addictions. (CAPA is an affiliate organization of Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis.)

NAMI Basics

NAMI Basics is an educational program for parents and caregivers of children and adolescents living with mental illnesses. It covers the fundamentals of caring for yourself, for your family and for your child.  NAMI Basics meets for six 2.5 hour sessions.  Information and resources are provided at no cost to the participants.

NAMI Basics provides:

    • Up-to-date information on a range of mental illnesses and their impact on the brain
    • Current research on treatments including evidence-based therapies, medications and side-effects
    • Preparation for interactions with the mental health care system and juvenile justice system
    • Skills related to managing crises, solving problems and communicating effectively
    • Confidence for life-long understanding and support

Six week class runs from February 17 thru March 23, 2020

Health Advisory Board Meeting

Community Strong’s Health Advisory Board meets quarterly with  direct intent to identify health needs of St Charles County, promote public participation in health needs of the county through ambassadorship and assist in developing health policy and procedures to meet health needs of the county.  Under the Health Advisory Board, are also action teams that directly try to impact Workplace Wellness, Substance Abuse Prevention, Chronic Disease Prevention, and plan Community Strong events.

Basics of Mindful Eating
